HK style Milk Tea

Day or night, Hong Kong is awesome. You tend to wonder how locals have so much energy- they talk fast, walk fast and are always in a hurry for no reason. I came to the conclusion that it must come from their caffeine consumption in the form of a delicious, flavorful cup of milk tea they guzzle by the gallons. Whether it is during breakfast, high noon tea or after dinner it is always an opportune time to have a cup.
The best way to replicate HK style milk tea at home is to use loose leaf black tea. But, if all you have on hand are tea bags, like Lipton or Tetley, use a few up and enjoy a hot cup of milk tea or two during these cold LA evenings. I am. This is how I do it in El Sereno.

East L.A. style milk tea (one serving)

3 tea bags (black tea)
1 cup of water
Evaporated milk
Condensed milk

1. Boil the water and drop in the tea bags. Let the tea boil for 5 minutes and steep for another 5 minutes.

2. Pour into a cup and add a dash evaporated milk. Add condensed milk to taste. Condensed milk adds to the richness and creaminess. No sugar please!
